BENEFIT 35: LEVELS OF FORBIDDING EVIL
Ibnul Qayyim raḥimahullāh said:
“Forbidding evil is of four levels:
The 1⃣st: the evil is removed and replaced with its opposite.
The 2⃣nd: the evil is reduced, if not completely removed
The 3⃣rd: it is replaced with an evil similar to it
The 4⃣th: it is replaced with a greater evil
The first two levels are prescribed in the Sharī'ah, the third is a matter of ijtihād, while the fourth is Ḥarām.”
