BENEFIT 34: wide scholarly acceptance of a weak historic report may be a reason to accept it as a factual event Background: Al-Ja'd ibn Dirham; the first to reject the Divine Attributes and claim that the Qurʿān was created; mentor of Jahm ibn Ṣafwān; the founding father of the Jahmiyyah. As a result of his heretical beliefs, Al-Ja'd was executed by the Ummayad governor Khālid ibn ʿAbdullāh al-Qasri raḥimahullāh on the day of sacrifice ('Eidul Aḍh-ḥā). It is reported that Khālid ibn ʿAbdullāh Al-Qasri said in his sermon: “O people, Sacrifice! May Allāh accept your sacrifices. I will, however, sacrifice Al-Ja'd ibn Dirham because he claimed that Allāh did not take Ibrāhīm as a close friend and that He did not actually speak to Mūsā ('alayhis-salām). Allāh is exalted above what Al-Ja'd says.” He then descended from the pulpit and executed Al-Ja'd at the foot of the pulpit. Sheikh Wahb ḥafidhahullāh commented in one of the ḥā'iyah classes: “This report is something that is widely accepted among the scholars although its chains of narrations are all weak.”
