BENEFIT 29: PROFESSIONS OF THE SEVEN FAMOUS RECITERS
Imām Adh-Dhahabi raḥimahullāh transmitted the following narration from Khalaf [one of the ten well-known reciters]:
“Khalaf Al-Bazzār said:
1. كان ابن كثير عطَّارًا =
Ibn Kathīr was a perfumer
2. وكان نافع مُحْتَسِبًا =
Nāfi' was an accountant
3. وكان ابن عامر قَاضِيًا =
Ibn 'Āmir was a judge
4. وكان عاصم تَانِيًا =
'Āsim was a farmer
5. وكان أبو عمرو لُغَوِيًّا =
Abū 'Amr was a linguist
6. وكان حمزة زَيًَاتًا =
Ḥamzah was an oil salesman
7. وكان الكسائي مُعَلِّمًا =
Al-Kisā'ī was a teacher.”

Despite their varied professions, one thing they all shared in common was, they did not allow the Dunya to divert them from the Speech of Allāh❗️
