BENEFIT 27: Giving glad tidings -especially in times of distress- is a prophetic Sunnah (1) During one of the Lāmiyyah classes, Sheikh Wahb Adh-Dhayfani ḥafidhahullāh reminded us of the following ḥadīth: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: ((ما يجد الشهيد من مس القتل إلا كما يجد أحدكم من مس القرصة)). “The pain experienced by a martyr at the time of death is only like one of you being pinched/prickled (by an ant).” [Transmitted by Tirmithī & others from the ḥadīth of Abū Hurairah radhiyallāhu 'anhu; declared 'Ṣaḥīḥ' by Sheikh Albānī] Ibnul Qayyim raḥimahullāh said: ”لا يجد الشهيد من الألم إلا مثل ألم القرصة، فليس في قتل الشهيد مصيبة زائدة على ما هو معتاد لبنى آدم ؛ فمن عد مصيبة هذا القتل أعظم من مصيبة الموت على الفراش : فهو جاهل، بل موت الشهيد من أيسر الميتات ، وأفضلها وأعلاها.“ “The pain felt by a martyr is only like the pinch/prickle (of an ant). Therefore the death of a martyr is no more severe than what is common amongst the children of Ādam. So whoever considers that to be more severe than dying on one's bed then he is ignorant. In fact, the death of a martyr is one of the easiest/least painful of deaths and the best and most noble of them.” [Ighāthatul Lahfān (2/194)] The Sheikh ḥafidhahullāh said: “Someone had a dream about a brother who was killed during one of the battles against the Hoothi renegades (may Allāh give them what they deserve). In the dream he asked the brother, what was it like (i.e. death)? He replied, like the prickle of an ant.” ____ (1) for example: The Prophet ﷺ would sometimes remind his Companions before going to battle: ((الجنة تحت ظلال السيوف)) “Paradise is under the shades of the swords.” [Transmitted by Bukhārī from the ḥadīth of 'Abdullāh ibn Abī Awfā radhiyallāhu 'anhu]
