BENEFIT 24: I ONLY GO THERE TO EAT, I DON'T INTEND TO CELEBRATE THE PROPHET'S BIRTHDAY (ﷺ) Sheikh Abū Mūsā 'Abdullāh Ḥablīl ḥafidhahullāh was asked to give some advice concerning those who attend Ṣūfī celebrations like the Prophet’s birthday in order to eat their food, and when they are advised not to attend, they say: “actions are judges by their intentions”? The Sheikh ḥafidhahullāh responded (paraphrasing): Is it okay for someone to commit adultery and say: 'My intention is good'!? Or he goes to watch the fornicators and says: 'My intention is good,' or, "actions are judged by their intentions"!? What (sort of excuse) is this!? It's like the saying, 'an excuse worse than the actual sin'. It is not permissible for you to go and spectate, let alone eat their food, sit with them and help them. It is better for them to confess and say: 'We only want meat'; this is the reality; they are slaves to their stomachs; whoever fills their stomachs enslaves them. It is feared for the likes of these when the Dajjāl appears. What will they do when the Dajjāl appears? With Dajjāl it's not just (a plate of) rice and meat, he has mountains of bread and meat, and heaps of gold and silver with him following him like bees. When they see that they will acknowledge and profess, yes, Dajjāl is my Lord! In order to gain some bread and meat, and some gold!? By Allāh, this is a calamity! That a single meal attracts you to attend this innovated celebration... This (celebration) has nothing to with Islām nor the Sunnah! It is not from Islām at all! What's astonishing is that when France entered some of the Muslim countries; Egypt I believe, the Ṣūfis at the time had stopped celebrating the mawlid. So the French asked them: Why have you stopped? They said: Everything is expensive, we don't have enough resources and expenses to cover the costs...So the French said: We will give you financial assistance, and they ended up giving them around three hundred French coins... Why did the French support this celebration? They said: Because we know that it is contrary to the teachings of Islām... It's only right to implement what Suyūṭī raḥimahullāh mentioned; that they should be beaten with date palms and slippers. By Allāh if the rulers were to rise against these people, they would not only be expelled from the masjids. No! They would also be beaten with date palms and slippers in order to humiliate them. These people have no respect for the houses of Allāh, the Almighty. Musical instruments in the houses of Allāh, discos, loudspeakers are raised, they spread it on the radio, even in Ramaḍhān; during the last ten nights of Ramaḍhān. This is the ultimate delusion!
