BENEFIT 22: DON'T JEOPARDISE YOUR RELIGION BY REMAINING IN THE LANDS OF DISBELIEF Sheikh Muḥammād Bā Jammāl ḥafidhahullāh was requested to give some advice on how a Muslim remains steadfast in the West. The questioner described the case of Muslim students in the West and how they have become accustomed to missing Friday prayers... The Sheikh ḥafidhahullāh began by highlighting the difference between the structure of a week in the West and how it differs to the weekly structure in the Muslim countries; in Muslim countries Friday is a day of rest, but in the West Friday is a normal workday. Then the Sheikh goes straight to the point, 'whoever seeks istiqāmah (uprightness/steadfastness) should leave the lands of disbelief; those lands where there is widespread evil, and migrate to a Muslim country; just as the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said in the ḥadīth concerning the man who murdered 99 innocent souls; he was advised to leave his land and migrate to a land where the people worshipped Allāh, and he was advised to go there and worship Allah alongside them and not to return to his former land. The Sheikh adds, most of these schools in the West contain freemixing. And the fremixing there is not like the freemixing we witness here in Yemen; the girls there are not veiled. So, it's not permissible to attend these schools in the first place - not for the young ones, and certainly not for the elders. It's better for a person to remain ignorant than to jeopardise his religion. The Sheikh reiterates, 'so the advice is to leave the lands of disbelief and to migrate to the Muslim lands.' He then says, one is easily accustomed to something if he engages in that matter regularly. Perhaps he used to eat meat there in the West and when he comes here he gets accustomed to eating beans...Some of the Western brothers are present here living in good conditions. We say this while there is a variety of things to eat; burgers, pizzas fried chicken, varoius kinds of chocolates, ice cream, etc. The point being, there's much good available (aside from beans). Take my word! I guarantee you, you won't die from hunger if you come here - by Allāh's permission! How is that even possible while the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "a house without dates is one whose inhabitants are hungry." And we have dates and much more. In fact, some of the brothers are now complaining of body fat. What does this indicate? There's a lot of good on offer. What's more, the food here is all pure, ḥalāl and good...
