BENEFIT 20: THE VIRTUE OF TAKING CARE OF ORPHANS AND TREATING THEM KINDLY
On the authority of Sahl ibn Sa'd, may Allāh be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
"He who takes care of an orphan will be in Jannah with me like these two". He then raised his forefinger and middle finger by way of illustration.
[Al-Bukhāri]
Al-Hafidh Ibn Ḥajar mentioned in his explanation of this ḥadīth:
"Ibn Baṭṭāl said: 'The right upon the one who hears this ḥadīth is to act upon it so that he may accompany the Prophet ﷺ in Paradise, and there is no better rank in the Hereafter than that."
Then Ibn Ḥajar raḥimahullāh said:
"In this is an indication that the difference between the rank of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and the one who looks after an orphan is like the difference between the forefinger and the middle finger; this is similar to the other ḥadith:
"I and the Hour have been sent like these two (i.e. the forefinger and the middle finger)."
[Bukhāri & Muslim]

[NOTE:
Sheikh Ibn Bāz raḥimahullāh said:
"An orphan is one whose father passes away while he is still young; prior to reaching the age of puberty. But if he reaches the age of puberty, he is no longer considered an orphan."
