BENEFIT 6: LOVING FOR OTHERS WHAT YOU LOVE FOR YOURSELF One of the blessings -and the blessings of Allah upon Ahlul-Yemen are many- is that you find the people of knowledge, from time to time, taking time out to visit one another. These occasional visits are frequently accompanied with benefit-filled reminders. Hereunder is a summary of one such reminder. The reminder relates to the saying of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((لا يؤمن أحدكم حتى يحب لأخيه ما يحب لنفسه)) "None of you (truly) believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself." [Reported by Bukhari & Muslim on the authority of Anas radhiyallahu anhu] Speaker: Hasan ibn Zayla' Al-Hadhrami hafidhahullah ___ 1- This is a famous hadeeth known to most Muslims. The young ones among us have memorised it, let alone the elders. 2- "None of you (truly) believes," belief (Eman), according to Ahlus-sunnah, increases and decreases; it increases with good deeds and decreases with evil deeds. Thus, we have to pay concern to that which will increase our Eman and stay clear of all that which decreases it. 3- "until he loves for his brother", 'brother' refers to brotherhood in faith, just as Allah stated: ((إنما المؤمنون إخوة)) "The believers are but brothers" Meaning, you must love for you fellow Muslim what you love for yourself. 4- "until..." meaning, Your Eman will remain incomplete UNTIL you love for your fellow Muslim what you love for yourself. 5- This affair of 'loving for your brother what you love for yourself' is not something optional. It is in fact mandatory, i.e., you are sinful if you do not do so. 6- There are certain phrases -as the scholars have mentioned- which help identify major sins; from them is the phrase: ((لا يؤمن أحدكم)) 'None of you truly believes' So, it is considered a major sin not to love for your brother what you love for yourself. 7- What exactly must we love for our fellow Muslims? It is mentioned in some wordings of the hadeeth that, "...he loves for his brother what he loves for himself of khayr." And the term 'khayr' encompasses every type of good; the good of this world as well as the Next. This means, for example, if you've studied and understood a matter of knowledge, you should wish the same for your brother - even if they end up surpassing you. Another example is the hadeeth of ibn Umar in the saheehayn concerning the three who were stuck in the cave. The last of them loved for his brother what he loved for himself, so much so that he gave away all the riches gained from that profitable investment. See full hadeeth: https://sunnah.com/riyadussalihin:12 9- However, it should not be misunderstood from this that we refrain from competing with one another in accomplishing good deeds, because this falls contrary to Allah's command: (فاستبقوا الخيرات) "Race with one another to goodness" So one should not say, I have memorised half of the Qur'an, I'll now wait for my fellow Muslim to catch me up. This is a misunderstanding. 10- We also understand from this hadeeth that we must hate for our fellow Muslims what we hate for ourselves of evil; this includes sins, innovation, hizbiyyah, shirk, etc...and this is what motivates the scholars of Ahlus-sunnah to refute and speak out against falsehood. هذا ما تيسر لي تلخيصة والحمد لله أخوكم أبو إسحاقين محمد بن أحمد ______ Listen to the actual kalimah: https://t.me/daralhadeethalhami/681
