Imām Al-Qurṭubi raḥimahullāh said: “Allāh the Almighty did not mention any woman by name in His book except Maryam, the daughter of ‘Imrān; her name was mentioned approximately thirty times. The wisdom behind this as some scholars mentioned is that: kings and noblemen would avoid mentioning their wives and naming them in public places. Instead, they would refer to them using terms like spouse, wife, family, dependent, etc. On the other hand, if they spoke about their female slaves, they were more open and direct, and they would not shy away from mentioning them by name. So when the Christians said about Maryam and her son what they said (i.e. Son of God etc.), Allāh mentioned her directly by name, without referencing her motherhood and servitude; even though both were among her attributes, keeping in line with the customs of the Arabs - who would mention their female slaves by name.” 📚 [Al-Jāmi‘ li Aḥkāmil Qur'ān (6/16)]
