What is Shafā‘ah? Sheikh Uthaymeen رحمه الله said: “Shafā‘ah, linguistically, is to make something even (شَفْعٌ), and technically, it is to intercede on behalf of someone else in order to bring about good or ward away harm. And its link to its (linguistic) derivation/root word is obvious; because if you intercede for someone, you're adding your plea to theirs such that it becomes even.” [Al-Wāsiṭiyyah 524]
