In Jami’ As-Saheeh, Sheikh Muqbil includes the following chapter heading:
[58 - The Teacher Holds the Position of a Parent]
Within this chapter, he cites the following ḥadīth:
...Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I AM TO YOU LIKE A FATHER; I TEACH YOU. So when one of you goes to relieve himself, let him neither face the qibla nor turn his back to it, and let him not clean himself with his right hand." He also commanded to use three stones and prohibited to use dung and bones.
After this, the Sheikh rahimahullah comments :
This is a sound (hasan) hadith. Part of it was narrated by Muslim from the hadith of Suhayl, from Al-Qa'qa, from Abu Salih with the same content.
The hadith was also recorded by An-Nasa’i (Vol. 1, p. 38) and Ibn Majah (Vol. 1, p. 313).

Similarly, Muslim narrated in his Sahih (2151) from Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me, “O my son.”
Imam An-Nawawi, may Allāh have mercy on him, titled this section:
"The Permissibility of Saying ‘O my son’ to Someone Who is Not One’s (biological) Child, and its Recommendation."
The point being, the term "son" is akin to the term "father," with no difference. It is not intended as a biological relationship but rather as an expression of affection and compassion.
