BENEFIT 265: Is it correct to say that each scholar has their own version of Salafiyyah and "I follow the Salafiyyah of so-and-so"?

Sheikh Yahya ḥafidhahullāh:
Salafiyyah is one and the same; it is the religion of the Lord of the worlds. As stated in the Qur'an:
{وَمَنْ يُشَاقِقِ الرَّسُولَ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ الْهُدَىٰ وَيَتَّبِعْ غَيْرَ سَبِيلِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ نُوَلِّهِ مَا تَوَلَّىٰ وَنُصْلِهِ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَسَاءَتْ مَصِيرًا}
"And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows a path other than that of the believers, We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination." [An-Nisa: 115]
{إِنَّ هَٰذِهِ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً وَأَنَا رَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُونِ}
"Indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so worship Me." [Al-Anbiya: 92]
{وَاعْتَصِمُوا بِحَبْلِ اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُوا}
"And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided." [Aal-E-Imran: 103]
There are many such evidences. Salafiyyah is one, based on the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet ﷺ as understood by the early generations (Salaf). As for phrases like “the Salafiyyah of so-and-so” or “I am upon the Salafiyyah of so-and-so,” such distinctions are incorrect. These expressions reflect an attempt to evade or fragment the truth—something common among those who seek to escape from firm principles and selectively follow what is convenient.
