Sheikh Al-Islām Abu Al-‘Abbās stated, as reported by Al-Allāmah Abū Mūsā Al-Madeeni in his compilation of the virtues of the imām known as 'Qiwām As-Sunnah', Abu Al-Qāsim Isma'eel ibn Muḥammad At-Taymi, the author of 'Kitāb At-Targheeb wa At-Tarheeb':
"I heard him say: 'Muḥammad ibn Is-ḥāq ibn Khuzaymah erred in the ḥadīth regarding 'the image.' However, this does not detract from his status, rather this is the only matter that should not be taken from him.'"
Abū Mūsā then clarified that the intent of this statement was to emphasise that few, if any, great scholars are without any slip-ups. If an imām were to be disregarded due to a slip-up, then many scholars would have to be abandoned, which is not a proper course of action.
