Al-Bahr Al-Khidhamm (Vast Ocean) in the Explanation of Sahih Muslim
By the grace and success of Allah, the Exalted, tonight marks the final lesson in the explanation of Sahih Al-Imam Muslim, may Allah have mercy on him. This study was conducted with our esteemed teacher and father, Sheikh Abu Amr Al-Hajoori, may Allah preserve and keep him on the path of righteousness.
It has been an enjoyable and engaging series, filled with invaluable benefits and profound knowledge. The explanation spanned approximately three thousand (3,000) lessons over a period of about ten years, with lessons taking place every night between Maghrib and Isha, except on rare occasions due to guest lectures or travelling.
The anticipated number of volumes for this explanation is thirty (30) volumes. Most lessons lasted between half an hour to 45 minutes, with some lasting an hour, though those were rare, and a few lasting only 20 minutes.
The explanation was comprehensive, covering:
- Biographies of all narrators and their conditions, without excessive repetition, with the number of narrators being approximately 2,000. The biographies of the more prominent narrators were read from Siyar A'lam An-Nubala.
- Highlighting the errors in the chapter headings made by Imam al-Nawawi and suggesting alternative titles wherever appropriate.
- Drawing attention to An-Nawawi’s misinterpretations (Ta'weel of Siafaat) in his explanation, as well as pointing out the errors of Qadi ’Iyadh.
- Noting the consensus on certain hadiths that Imam Muslim included, as well as the hadiths uniquely reported by him.
- Critiquing certain chains of narration, including those that were later criticised, even if they had not been criticised at the time.
- Identifying additions to Sahih Muslim from the narrator of Muslim, Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Sufyan.
- Explaining the meanings of words during the reading of the hadith, followed by a detailed explanation after completing the reading of the hadith.
This is in addition to numerous other benefits related to poetry, narration, the science of narrators, Tawheed, Aqeedah, Usool, and many other noble fields of knowledge that are too numerous to mention in this summary. We ask Allah for success, steadfastness, and firmness until death.
