Essential Principles That Must Be Understood
[Namely] Six Fundamental Principles:
First Principle: Importance of Ruling by What Allāh Has Revealed
This principle encompasses six key foundations:
1. The Obligation To Rule by Allāh's Law:
Allāh Almighty said:
"And judge between them ˹O Prophet˺ by what Allāh has revealed, and do not follow their desires. And beware, so they do not lure you away from some of what Allāh has revealed to you. If they turn away ˹from Allāh’s judgment˺, then know that it is Allāh’s Will to repay them for some of their sins, and that many people are indeed rebellious." [Sūrah Al-Mā'idah: 49]
2. The Obligation To Seek Judgment From Allāh's Law with Full Acceptance and Submission:
Allāh Almighty said:
"But no! By your Lord, they will never be ˹true˺ believers until they accept you ˹O Prophet˺ as the judge in their disputes, and find no resistance within themselves against your decision and submit wholeheartedly." [Sūrah An-Nisā': 65]
3. The Threat Against Ruling by Other Than Allāh's Law:
Allāh Almighty says:
"And whosoever does not judge by what Allāh has revealed, then such are the disbelievers (of a lesser degree)." [Sūrah Al-Mā'idah: 44]
And He Almighty said:
"And whosoever does not judge by that which Allāh has revealed, then such are the wrong-doers (of a lesser degree)." [Sūrah Al-Mā'idah: 45]
And He Almighty said:
"And whosoever does not judge by what Allāh has revealed, then such are the disobedient (of a lesser degree)." [Sūrah Al-Mā'idah: 47]
4. The Caution Against Opposing the Command of Allāh and His Messenger:
Allāh Almighty says:
"So let those who disobey his orders beware, for an affliction may befall them, or a painful torment may overtake them." [Sūrah An-Nūr: 63]
5. Allāh's Judgement is the Best Judgement:
Allāh Almighty says:
"Is it the judgment of ˹pre-Islamic˺ ignorance they seek? Who could be a better judge than Allah for people of sure faith?" [Sūrah Al-Mā'idah: 50]
6. What Comes from Allāh is Rūḥ (a Revelation, and a Mercy) and Light:
Allāh Almighty states:
"And so We have sent to you ˹O Prophet˺ a Rūḥ by Our command. You did not know of ˹this˺ Book and Ēmān ˹before˺. But We have made it a light, by which We guide whoever We will of Our servants. And you are truly leading ˹all˺ to the Straight Path." [Sūrah Ash-Shūrā: 52]
