6- If a person embodies both good and evil; righteousness and sin, obedience and disobedience, adherence to the Sunnah and innovation, then they deserve allegiance and reward to the extent of the good within them, and disallegiance and punishment according to the evil they possess. Thus, in a single individual, there may be grounds for both honour and dishonour, and they receive a combination of both. An example of this is a poor thief whose hand is cut off for theft but is still provided with sufficient support from the public treasury to meet their needs.
This is the principle agreed upon by Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah, which contrasts with the views of the Khawarij, the Mu'tazilites, and those who follow them, who do not recognise that a person can be deserving of both reward and punishment simultaneously."
