BENEFIT 214: Principles of Usool are used to further one's understanding of the Sharī‘ah - not to seek out loopholes

Question: Some students of knowledge tend to be lenient regarding the issue of Tasweer, and when advised, they argue using a fundamental principle, stating that: الأمر إذا عمّت به البلوى تسامح فيه العلماء 'If a [forbidden] matter becomes widespread [such that it is difficult to avoid], the scholars take a lenient approach'? Sheikh 'AbdulMuhsin Al-'Abbād ḥafidhahullāh: It's not befitting for one to search for routes through which he contradicts that which is legislated. Rather one must follow the Sunnah and avoid looking for loopholes to fulfill their desires. Instead, they should fear Allah, the Almighty, and avoid things that are not appropriate. @almanhajussalafi
