Questioner: This question is presented so to be recorded and disseminated as widely as its opposite was disseminated. Your Eminence, a rumor has surfaced, propagated by some individuals with ill intentions, falsely claiming that you have criticised Sheikh Rabee’ in one of your lectures. We believe their goal is to pit scholars against one another. What is your response to this, and what guidance do you offer to these individuals? We wish to record and spread your response to clarify the falsehood of their claims.
Sheikh Abdulmuhsin Al-Abbad responds:
Sheikh Rabee’ is among those dedicated to knowledge in our time, with significant and commendable contributions in serving the Sunnah, and noteworthy and beneficial writings. However, recently, he has become involved in matters that he ought not to have engaged in. He should have continued his earlier diligence in producing beneficial writings. In recent times, he has engaged in certain matters with which we do not agree. We pray to Allah Almighty to guide us and him to all that is good and to grant success to everyone in their endeavors.
I do not criticise him nor do I warn against him. I affirm that he is a capable scholar, and his dedication to knowledge, if resumed, would be greatly beneficial. His past efforts were more significant than his current ones. I regard Sheikh Rabee’ as a scholar whose opinions are reliable and beneficial. However, everyone’s statements can be accepted or rejected, as no one is infallible (except the Prophet ﷺ). We disagree with him on some recent matters, particularly those that have caused widespread discord among students of knowledge, leading to divisions and conflicts.
It is incumbent upon him and others to abandon the continuation of these disputes, to refrain from exacerbating the situation, and to focus on productive knowledge instead of perpetuating division and disunity.
I pray to Allah Almighty to grant success to everyone.
