Clarification concerning the following Answer by Shaykh Muḥammad Al-Majīdī حفظه الله regarding Sheikh Sulaymān Ar-Ruhaili:

"وعلیکم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته
May Allāh grant you success, yā akhil karīm. Not everyone who shows love for Salafīyyah and praises Salafīs becomes a Salafī, for Salafīyyah is a complete and perfect path. Therefore, if someone were to come with something from it, he doesn't automatically enter into it. Rather, perhaps he exits from it due to one matter which nullifies it. Do you not see that the one fulfils all the conditions and pillars of Ṣalāh, then comes with only a single nullifier, he is not considered a Muṣallī? Similarly is the case of Salafīyyah. Whoever falls into a single nullifier of it exits it. Therefore, Ar-Ruḥaylī is not upon Salafīyyah from all aspects, rather he has fallen under a sign from the signs of Ahlul Bidaʿ, which is defamation of the people of Athar, and other than that of the nullifiers of this Daʿwah, bārak Allāhu fīk." I saw this translation being shared around, so I contacted the Sheikh to confirm whether Sheikh Sulaymān Ar-Ruhaili is being declared an innovator.
Sheikh Muhammad Al-Majeedi ḥafidhahullāh responded:
"وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته.
May Allah grant you success and bless you. My dear brother, regarding Sheikh Suleiman Ar-Ruhaili, may Allah grant him success, there are certain matters for which we and our scholars criticise him, and I am less than that; i.e. to be undertaking Jarh wa ta'deel. Nonetheless we are saddened by him siding with that rebellious faction that has wronged Ahlus-Sunnah. His siding with that Barmaki faction is a cause of distress for Ahlus-Sunnah; they have been oppressed by this faction, yet he (may Allah grant him correctness and success) sides with this rebellious group that has transgressed against Ahlus-Sunnah, as you are aware, may Allāh bless you. Some of our scholars, such as Sheikh Hasan Ba-Shu'aib, may Allah grant him success, hints to this - I.e. Declaring Tabdee'. However, as I mentioned, Ahlus-Sunnah are pained by his actions, even if he is not considered a Hizbi. We seek Allah’s forgiveness if we have declared him a Hizbi. We are pained by his actions and his stance, although he remains one of the scholars of the Sunnah. May Allah grant him success and bless him." [end quote]
