BENEFIT 196: The meaning of:

{وَٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَشۡهَدُونَ ٱلزُّورَ}
"˹They (the true believers) are˺ those who do not witness Az-Zoor." [Surah Al-Furqān: 72]
Imām As-Sa'di rahimahullah commented (in his Tafsir):
﴿وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَشْهَدُونَ الزُّورَ﴾ أي: لا يحضرون الزور أي: القول والفعل المحرم، فيجتنبون جميع المجالس المشتملة على الأقوال المحرمة أو الأفعال المحرمة، كالخوض في آيات الله والجدال الباطل والغيبة والنميمة والسب والقذف والاستهزاء والغناء المحرم وشرب الخمر وفرش الحرير، والصور ونحو ذلك، وإذا كانوا لا يشهدون الزور فمن باب أولى وأحرى أن لا يقولوه ويفعلوه.
"And those who do not witness Az-Zoor," refers to those who do not attend gatherings of falsehood, meaning both forbidden speech and actions. They avoid all assemblies that involve forbidden words or actions, such as mocking Allah's Āyaat, futile arguments, backbiting, gossip, cursing, slander, ridicule, forbidden singing, drinking alcohol, laying out silk, TASWEER, and similar things. If they do not witness falsehood, it is even more certain that they do not speak or act upon it."
