BENEFIT 180: The one who speaks the most is not necessarily the most knowledgeable

5 June 2024 • 2K views
Ibn Rajab Al-Ḥanbali, may Allāh be pleased with, said: «فتن كثير من المتأخرين بهذا، وظنوا أن من كثر كلامه وجداله وخصامه في مسائل الدين فهو أعلم ممن ليس كذلك، وهذا جهل محض. "Many of the later scholars were misled by this, thinking that those who spoke and argued extensively on religious matters were more knowledgeable than those who did not. This is pure ignorance. Look at the leading companions and scholars like Abū Bakr, 'Umar, 'Ali, Mu'ādh, Ibn Mas'ūd, and Zayd ibn Thābit. Their speech was less than that of Ibn 'Abbās, yet they were more knowledgeable than him." [بيان فضل علم السلف (p. 21)] @almanhajussalafi
