Sheikh 'Abdul-Hamid Az-Zu'kari, may Allah preserve him, responds responded:
"It is permissible to pray there. Praying behind any righteous or sinful Muslim is valid. If a Sunni imam is available, praying behind him is preferable. This is the correct view according to the scholars. Referring to the masjids of innovation as "Masjid Ḍhirār" is a figurative expression due to their harm. However, not every masjid managed by an innovator qualifies as an actual "Masjid Ḍhirār" to the extent that prayers there are invalid and the masjid must be demolished.
If you find a Sunni imam, pray behind him; if not, you may pray behind any righteous or sinful Muslim, whether they are an innovator or a tyrant, provided their innovation does not reach the level of disbelief; such as those who call upon others besides Allah, vow to others besides Allah, or hold the beliefs of the Rafidah or Batiniyyah regarding Allah and the Companions; Such individuals have left the fold of Islam, and it is not permissible to pray behind them. Otherwise, the base rule is that prayer is valid behind any righteous or sinful Muslim.
Imam Al-Bukhari stated, "chapter on praying behind someone who is maftoon and an innovator," and he quoted Al-Hasan Al-Basri's statement: "Pray, and his innovation is upon him."
This issue was thoroughly addressed by Sheikh Al-Islam in many places, and we cited some of his statements in our commentary on Al-Barbahari's book "Sharh As-Sunnah." Similarly, Ibn Abi Al-Izz mentioned this in his commentary on Al-Tahawiyyah, reflecting the views of Sheikhul Islam. This is the belief held by the Sunni scholars as a whole: "We see the validity of prayer behind every righteous or sinful Muslim."
However, if there is a Sunni masjid and a masjid of innovation, do not go to the innovators. Go to the Sunnis; it will comfort your heart, please your Lord, bring peace to your soul, and aligns with the guidance of your predecessors."
