BENEFIT 146: Bid'ah is of 2 types (mufassiqah and mukaffirah), and the 72 sects threatened with Hellfire fall under the first type (mufassiqah)

Sheikh Yahya al-Hajoori, may Allah preserve him, said: "Regarding the phrase "Hayya 'ala Khayr al-'Amal" (come to the best of deeds) in the Adhan, this person has innovation with him but not one that leads takes him out of the fold of Islam, as well as similar innovations that are mufassiqah (a minor type of innovation that DOES NOT removes a person from the fold of Islam) - not mukaffirah (a major type of innovation that REMOVES a person from the fold of Islam). Bid'ah mukaffirah include Rafidhism, belief of the Jam'iyyah, Batiniyyah, extremist Qadariyyah, and the like. innovations that lead to disbelief are those by which the person who practices them is considered a disbeliever. Scholars differentiate between innovations that lead to disbelief and those that do not. When they refer to the "seventy-three sects, all of while will be in the Fire except one," it means they are all within the fold of Islam. Al-Baghawi transmitted a consensus regarding this, stating that these sects are within Islam but have fallen into innovations that are not mukaffirah. They are not considered disbelievers; they are all part of the Muslim Ummah. This (the claim that all types of bid'ah remove a person from the fold of Islam) contradicts this consensus, transmitted by Al-Baghawi and others. Some innovations are mukaffirah, such as the innovation of the Christians "And [they invented] monasticism which they innovated" [Quran 57:27], and similar innovations like Hulooliyyah, Ittihadiyyah, the belief in the createdness of the Qur'an, the belief that Allah does not know matters until they occur, Rafidhism, etc. The scholars differentiate between innovations that lead to disbelief (mukaffirah) and those that are lesser than that (mufassiqah).
