Who are the Haddadiyyah?

Questioner: May Allah bless you. Who are the Haddadiyyah? And what are the traits of the Haddadis so we can avoid them? Sheikh Yusuf al-Jaza'iri: "Haddadiyyah is a term referring to extremists. Haddad was among the extremists and some people followed him in that, so they were ascribed to Haddadiyyah. Otherwise, Haddadiyyah are among the extremists who exaggerated in passing judgment on individuals and excommunicating people from Ahlus-Sunnah without any validation, evidence, or justification. They also unjustly criticise scholars for no reason. These are among the general matters; all of which come down to extremism and excessive condemnation of others, which are from the innovations that cause one to deviate from the methodology of the people of the Sunnah. Allah Almighty says, "O People of the Book, do not go to extreme in your religion." So, extremism is indeed among the traits of the People of the Book (Jews and Christians) and other than them."
