BENEFIT 134: If you see a video of a scholar online, don't just assume that they permit tasweer!

O Sheikh, what is the ruling regarding Tasweer using a mobile camera?
Sheikh Wasee'ullah Abbas waffaqahullah:
"This matter is very clear! The ruling on photography, my brother, is that all types of pictures have been prohibited by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. On the day of judgement, the one who takes a picture will be tasked with breathing life into it and bringing it to life, which they are not capable of. Therefore, it is not permissible to photograph with a camera, nor by hand, nor by any other means, even if it is on a wall or on clothing [it is not permissible]. Such photography is not correct, may Allah bless you. However, if someone argues that this is temporary (I.e. Live transmission), I say that brothers should not take pictures, but they persist. If they record here without a picture (I.e. Audio), they may add the picture afterwards. So, in summary, I do not accept this, I do not approve of it, nor do I condone it. It is not permissible for me to issue a fatwa permitting something that is not permissible under any circumstances, by the will of Allah."

DISCLAIMER: These are some of the scholars who are often quoted by those who counter the knowledge based fatwas issued by our scholars in Yemen and elsewhere. I wanted to highlight that even these scholars do not agree with the lax positions adopted by such individuals in this matter.
