Prohibition of wearing such clothing: Narrated ’Abdullāh ibn ’Umar: Allah's messenger Muhammad ﷺ said: “Whoever wears the clothing of shuhra in this world will be dressed in humiliating clothes on the day of judgment.” [Ahmed & Abu Dawood; graded "Hasan" by Sheikh Albani in Sahih Al-Jami' (6526)] Does emulating the dress-code of the Prophet ﷺ enter into libaas Ash-Shuhrah? Muḥammad ibn Wāsi’, the leader of the worshippers in his time rahimahullah, entered upon Bilāl ibn Abī Burdah, the Amīr of Baṣrah, while his Thawb was up to the middle of his shins. Bilāl asked him, what is this shuhrah O Ibn Wāsi’? So Wāsi responded: You made us fall into shuhrah! This was the dress of those who preceded, but it is you who have lengthened your tails such that the Sunnah has become among you an innovation and an act of shuhrah. ["Sirāj Al-Mulūk" of Aṭ-Ṭurṭūshi (36)]
