BENEFIT 107: Ramaḍhān | A season of giving and generosity

٠ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رضي الله قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَجْوَدَ النَّاسِ بِالْخَيْرِ وَكَانَ أَجْوَدَ مَا يَكُونُ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ كَانَ يَلْقَاهُ فِي كُلِّ سَنَةٍ فِي رَمَضَانَ حَتَّى يَنْسَلِخَ فَيَعْرِضُ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْقُرْآنَ فَإِذَا لَقِيَهُ جِبْرِيلُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَجْوَدَ بِالْخَيْرِ مِنَ الرِّيحِ الْمُرْسَلَةِ.‏ Ibn 'Abbās reported that Allah's Messenger ﷺ was the most generous of people in charity, but he was generous to the utmost in the month of Ramaḍan. Jibreel (peace be upon him) would meet him every year during the month of Ramaḍhān until it ended, and Allāh's Messenger ﷺ recited to him the Qur'ān; and when Jibreel met him Allah's Messenger ﷺ was most generous in giving charity like the blowing wind. [Agreed upon] If Allāh has blessed you with wealth, be generous and spend it in the right causes. And if you are poor and don't have anything to give, ask Allah from His bounties and excercise abstinence ٠ عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ رضى الله عنه عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ: ((وَمَنْ يَسْتَعْفِفْ يُعِفَّهُ اللهُ، وَمَنْ يَسْتَغْنِ يُغْنِهِ اللهُ)). Narrated Hakīm ibn Ḥizām: The Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever abstains from asking others for some financial help, Allah will give him and save him from asking others, Allah will make him self-sufficient.” [Agreed upon, and this is the wording of Bukhāri] ___ BENEFIT: A few years ago; six to be precise, Sheikh Muḥammad Bā Jammāl (one of Sheikh Muqbil's students) taught his book (the blameworthy nature of begging) during the month of Ramaḍhān. It may be a startling choice, but if you consider how much begging goes on during Ramaḍhān, you'll realise that it was a wise decision to caution people from this lowly act.
