Yunus ibn Abdil-A'la As-Sadafi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "ما رأيت أعقل من الشافعي ناظرته يوماً في مسألة، ثم افترقنا ولقيني فأخذ بيدي، ثم قال: "يا أبا موسى ألا يستقيم أن نكون إخواناً وإن لم نتفق في مسألة؟". "I never saw anyone wiser than Muhammad ibn Idris Ash-Shafi'i. One day, we discussed a religious issue and disagreed. After we parted, he met me again, took my hand, and said: 'O Abu Musa, can't we remain brothers even if we disagree on one issue?'¹ Source: Tarikh Dimashq (51/302) ____ ¹ This applies to differences of ijtihād, not to issues of khilāf (contradictory disagreement).
