But there is another type of seeking intercession that is not like this at all. It has been narrated from some well-known figures who adhere to the Book and the Sunnah that they permitted seeking intercession through the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, only, and not through any other prophet, nor through any created beings, holding on to the hadith of the blind man. Among them are Al-Izz ibn Abdis-Salam and Imam Ash-Shawkani, who opposed his own madhhab, the Zaydi madhhab, and adhered to the Book and the Sunnah and was not satisfied with anything else instead of them. Rather, it has been narrated from Imam Ahmad that he said seeking intercession through the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is permissible, standing by the apparent meaning of the hadith of the blind man. So do we say about this second type, of those who permitted seeking intercession, even if we do not practice it as a religion, that they committed shirk or fell into it? The answer is no. Therefore, seeking intercession through created beings has two cases: one who seeks intercession by likening the Creator to the created, this is clear disbelief. And one who seeks intercession thinking that he has evidence for it, which is the hadith of the blind man, but he is mistaken and is not declared misguided, so how can he be declared a disbeliever? We ask Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, to make us guides and guided, not misguided nor tempted. And peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
