BENEFIT: The Ruling on Writing “Allah” and “Muhammad” on the Walls of the Masjid

Question: Respected Shaykh — may Allah grant you success — the questioner says: There are some masjids where they put decorations, writing the name of Allah (“الله”) on the right side of the mihrab and the name “محمد” on the left side of the mihrab. What is the ruling on this? Sheikh Fawzan hafidhahullah: This is not permissible. It is making the Messenger ﷺ equal to Allah. Some people include يا: يا الله! يا محمد! “O Allah, O Muhammad”, and some write “Allah, Muhammad”. All of this is not permissible. In the first place, writing on [the walls of] the masjid is not allowed — whether it is Qur’anic verses or anything else — so that the masjid does not distract the worshippers and does not become a place of decoration or display. The masjid was not built for this purpose. The masjid is a place of worship; it was not built for decoration, appearances, or showing off. Whoever wants these kinds of things should go to museums. As for masjids, they are houses of worship and obedience, and such things should not be placed in them. Writing the name of Allah on one side of the mihrab and placing the Prophet’s name on the other side in a way that makes them appear equal is not permissible. There have been religious rulings issued by the official Fatwa authorities to remove this. So this is not permissible. Source: https://t.me/masjidsahabah/2088 #Tarbiyah@masjidsahabah
