BENEFIT: Hearing and Understanding the Qur'an Removes the Excuse of Ignorance

Sheikh Yahya Al-Hajoori hafidhahullah said: “Whoever hears the Qur'an being recited in a clear and understandable way — through the radio or any other means — then the proof has reached him, and he is not ignorant of the Book of Allah. It cannot be said that he is ignorant as long as he has HEARD it, it became CLEAR to him, and he UNDERSTOOD it. Nor can it be said that he is excused because of ignorance. Rather, the person excused due to ignorance is the one to whom the Ayaat of Allah were never conveyed, or they were conveyed to him but he DID NOT UNDERSTAND them and guidance was not made clear to him, as in the Ayah: {من بعد ما تبين له الهدى} ‘after guidance had become CLEAR to him.’ For example, someone may speak in one language while the listener speaks another language, or he hears the speech but does not know what it means — until it is explained to him and he understands it.” From a tafsir class, Monday afternoon, 14 Rajab 1441 AH.
