BENEFIT: Bid'ah is not repelled by Bid'ah

Sheikh Sālih As-Sindī hafidhahullah said: This is a beautiful statement: "An innovation is not repelled by an innovation; rather, it is repelled by the Sunnah," whether this is in matters of knowledge (creed) or in matters of action (worship). So, if the deniers, like the Jahmiyyah and the Mu'tazilah, come, they are not refuted by committing to false principles, or by committing to ambiguous terms that can carry both truth and falsehood, or by believing in giving precedence to the intellect over the revelation, or by abandoning adherence to the methodology of the pious predecessors (Salaf). For all of this is a false path. Innovation is only repelled by the Sunnah. Likewise in matters of action, if a person comes and introduces a practical innovation (in worship), he should not be countered with a reciprocal innovation. Meaning, if some people come and worship Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, by showing sorrow on the day of 'Ashura. What do you think if others counter them by showing joy on the day of 'Ashura, just so we can counter that innovation? Is this a good path? It is not a good path. Rather, an innovation is repelled by clarifying it, and it is repelled by guiding to the Sunnah. As for repelling an innovation with an innovation, this is an incorrect matter. So the statement of the Sheikh here is a very excellent statement and it should be memorized: "An innovation is not repelled by an innovation; rather, it is repelled by the Sunnah." Yes.
