Truth Before Ties Adh-Dhahabi, in his biography of Al-Husayn ibn Abi As-Surri Al-'Asqalani, said: Abu 'Arubah Al-Harrani said: هو خال أمي، وهو كذاب. “He (Al-Husayn) is the maternal uncle of my mother, and he is a liar.” [Mīzān Al-I‘tidāl (1/536)] Adh-Dhahabi, in his biography of Yaḥyā ibn Abi Unaysah Al-Jazari, said: ‘Ubaydullāh ibn ‘Amr said: Zayd ibn Abi Unaysah told me: لا تكتب عن أخي، فإنه كذاب. “Do not write from my brother, for he is a liar.” [Mīzān Al-I‘tidāl (4/364)] And he said in the biography of Al-Husayn ibn Abi As-Surri Al-‘Asqalani: Abu Dāwūd declared him weak. And his brother Muhammad said: لا تكتبوا عن أخي، فإنه كذاب. “Do not write from my brother, for he is a liar.” [Mīzān al-I‘tidāl (1/536)] Adh-Dhahabi, may Allah have mercy on him, said in the biography of ‘Abdullāh ibn Ja‘far ibn Najīḥ, the father of ‘Alī ibn Al-Madīnī: Ibn Al-Madīnī said: أبي ضعيف. “My father is weak.” [Mīzān al-I‘tidāl (2/401)] Imam Abu Dāwūd Sulaymān ibn Al-Ash‘ath said about his son ‘Abdullāh: ابني كذاب. “My son is a liar.” [Mīzān al-I‘tidāl (2/433)] Adh-Dhahabi clarified: As for his father’s statement about him, it appears that if it is authentically attributed to him, he meant that he was a liar in his everyday speech, not regarding prophetic ḥadīth. It seems he said this when ‘Abdullāh was still a young man, but later he grew older and became a leading scholar. [Tadhkirat Al-Ḥuffādh (2/238)] Adh-Dhahabi said in the biography of Sa‘d ibn Shu‘bah ibn Al-Ḥajjāj: وهو صدوق. He is truthful. “I named my son Sa‘d, but he neither succeeded nor prospered.” [Mīzān Al-I‘tidāl (2/122)] Adh-Dhahabi said about his son Abū Hurayrah: إنه حفظ القرآن ثم تشاغل عنه حتى نسيه. He memorised the Qur’an, then preoccupied himself with other matters until he forgot it. [Fatḥ Al-Mughīth (4/356)] Adh-Dhahabi said in the biography of Hishām ibn Ḥassān, Abū ‘Abdillāh Al-Qardūsī: ثقة، إمام كبير الشأن He is trustworthy, a great and eminent Imam. Ibn ‘Adī said: Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Shabīb narrated to us: Aḥmad ibn Asad narrated to us: Shu‘ayb ibn Ḥarb narrated to us: I heard Shu‘bah say: لو حابيت أحدا لحابيت هشام بن حسان، كان ختني، ولم يكن يحفظ. “If I were to show favoritism to anyone, it would be to Hishām ibn Ḥassān—he was my brother-in-law—but he did not have strong memory.” [Mīzān Al-I‘tidāl (4/495–496)] Imam Muslim mentions in the introduction to his Ṣaḥīḥ: Ḥajjāj ibn Ash-Shā‘ir narrated to me: Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb narrated to us: Ḥammād ibn Zayd narrated to us: Ayyūb said: إن لي جارا، ثم ذكر من فضله، ولو شهد عندي على تمرتين ما رأيت شهادته جائزة. “I have a neighbour, and he is a man of virtue, but if he were to testify for me about two dates, I would not consider his testimony acceptable.” Al-Ḥāfidh said in the biography of Al-‘Abbās ibn Maḥbūb, known as Ibn Shāṣūnah: Maslamah ibn Qāsim said: ضعيف الحديث لا يكتب حديثه وكان لي صديقا. “He is weak in ḥadīth; his narrations should not be written. He was a friend of mine.” [Lisān al-Mīzān (3/244)] Source: https://t.me/khawaaaaatir/130
