BENEFIT 527: A challenge to those who reject the Sunnah

Allah Almighty says:
{وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْمَحِيضِ قُلْ هُوَ أَذًى فَاعْتَزِلُوا النِّسَاءَ فِي الْمَحِيضِ وَلَا تقربوهن حَتَّى يطهرن}
“They ask you about menstruation. Say: it is harm, so keep away from women during menstruation and do not approach them until they are pure.”
The apparent meaning of the Ayah is general and could be understood as requiring complete avoidance of women during menstruation—just as some people in pre-Islamic times used to do, where a man would not even come near his wife, eat, or drink with her.
However, the Sunnah clarifies that the intended meaning is only the prohibition of sexual intercourse, not complete social or physical separation.
So the question for those who reject the Sunnah:
Why do you eat and drink with your wife during her menstruation, even though the apparent meaning of the Qur’an (by itself) does not support what you do, while you reject the Sunnah that explains it?
