Does Backbiting Apply to Children? Question: May Allāh reward you. The questioner asks: What is the ruling on backbiting a young child? Sheikh Abdurahman Al-Barrāk ḥafidhahullāh: If he understands praise and blame, then he comes under the general meaning of [backbiting — which is] mentioning your brother in a way he dislikes. Whether he is old or young, elderly or a youth, as long as he dislikes it and understands praise and criticism, then it is considered backbiting.
