Qāḍī Abū Yaʿlā Al-Ḥanbalī said, as cited in Aṣ-Ṣārim Al-Maslūl (pp. 565–566): “Whoever slanders ʿĀʾishah with that from which Allāh has absolved her has disbelieved, without any difference of opinion. More than one scholar has transmitted consensus on this, and more than one of the leading imams has explicitly stated this ruling.” End quote. Imām An-Nawawī (may Allāh have mercy on him) said in Sharḥ Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim (no. 2770): “The innocence of ʿĀʾishah (may Allāh be pleased with her) from the slander is established definitively by the explicit text of the Noble Qur’ān. Therefore, if a person were to harbour doubt about it—Allāh forbid—he would become a disbeliever and an apostate, by consensus of the Muslims.” End quote. Ibn Kathīr (may Allāh have mercy on him) said in his Tafsīr regarding Allāh’s statement in Sūrat An-Nūr (24:23): “The scholars—may Allāh have mercy on them—are unanimously agreed that whoever insults her after this, and accuses her of what she was accused of after what has been mentioned in this Āyah, is a disbeliever, because he is opposing the Qur'ān.” End quote. Ibn Al-Qayyim (may Allāh have mercy on him) said in Zād Al-Maʿād (vol. 1, p. 103): “The Ummah has unanimously agreed upon the disbelief of the one who slanders her.” End quote. Shaykh Al-ʿAllāmah Ibn ʿUthaymīn (may Allāh have mercy on him) said in Sharḥ Riyāḍ Aṣ-Ṣāliḥīn (vol. 3, p. 13): “The scholars are unanimously agreed that whoever accuses the Mother of the Believers, ʿĀʾishah (may Allāh be pleased with her), of what is mentioned in the incident of the slander is a disbeliever and an apostate— a disbeliever like one who prostrates to an idol. If he repents and recants by declaring himself false, then [his repentance is considered]; otherwise, he is executed as a disbeliever, because he has denied the Qur'ān.” End quote.
