BENEFIT 525: There's no عذر بالجهل when it comes to insulting Allāh, His Prophets and His Religion

Imām Ibn Bāz (may Allāh have mercy on him) said, as recorded in Majmūʿ Fatāwā (vol., pp. 75–77): “Whoever insults Allāh, Glorified and Exalted be He, in any manner whatsoever; or insults the Messenger Muḥammad ﷺ, or any of the other messengers, in any manner whatsoever; or insults Islam; or belittles or mocks Allāh or His Messenger ﷺ—then he is a disbeliever and an apostate from Islam, even if he claims to be a Muslim, by the consensus of the Muslims. This is due to the statement of Allāh, the Mighty and Exalted: ‘Is it Allāh, His verses, and His Messenger that you were mocking? Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief’ [At-Tawbah 9:65–66].” He then said: “No one may be excused in this matter on the claim of ignorance, because these issues are among those well known to the Muslims, and their ruling is clear in the Book of Allāh, the Mighty and Exalted, and in the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ.” End quote. Similarly, Shaykh Al-ʿAllāmah Ibn ʿUthaymīn (may Allāh have mercy on him) was asked in Liqāʾ Al-Bāb Al-Maftūḥ about the issue of excusing someone on the basis of ignorance, and whether it applies to the matter of insulting the religion or insulting the Lord. He replied (may Allāh have mercy on him): “No one is ignorant of the fact that the Lord must be glorified. No one is ignorant that the Lord possesses such majesty and veneration that it is inconceivable for anyone to insult Him. The same applies to the Sharīʿah. Thus, this is a hypothetical issue in the mind; it has no existence in reality. In any case, whoever insults Allāh is a disbeliever and an apostate, even if he is joking, and therefore must be executed.” End quote. Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah raḥimahullāh said (Aṣ-Ṣārim Al-Maslūl p. 551): “The innate disposition of all created beings is fashioned upon acknowledging the existence of the Creator and venerating Him. There is no doubt or ambiguity that would drive a person to such insult, nor any desire that would lead to it. Rather, it is nothing but mockery, ridicule, contempt, and rebellion against the Lord of the worlds, emanating from a satanic soul filled with rage, or from a fool who has no reverence for Allāh.” End quote.
