BENEFIT 514: Does Anal sex remove one from the fold of Islam?

Sheikh Fawzān was asked: What type of disbelief is meant in the Prophet’s ﷺ statement: “Whoever has intercourse with a woman in her anus has committed disbelief”? He replied: This is minor disbelief (kufr aṣghar), which does not expel one from the fold of Islam—similar to how insulting a Muslim is considered sinful (fisq) and fighting a Muslim is considered kufr; it is a “disbelief without full disbelief.” Engaging in intercourse with one’s wife in the anus does not take one out of the religion, but it is considered a major sin, and it is described as kufr in order to discourage it and emphasise its severity.
