Question: Is it permissible for a soldier who has been surrounded during battle by the enemy to detonate himself with a grenade so that he does not fall captive into the hands of the enemy?
Sheikh Abdulḥamīd Az-Zu'kari hafidahullāh:
It is not permissible. He must not kill himself. He might not fall captive, and even if he does, Muslims may work to secure his release, and good may result from that.
