BENEFIT 504: Historical Criticism of Rulers Does Not Constitute Khurooj

Question: Is it permissible to speak about the rulers after their death, detailing the misguidance, oppression, and injustice they practiced? And does this contradict the belief of the Ahlus-Sunnah regarding the rulers? Sheikh Yahya ḥafidhahullāh: Unjust speech is impermissible whether the person is alive or deceased. However, if the ruler was oppressive, such as Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf, then this is recorded and mentioned. Historians document it, evidences record it, and witnesses recount it. What is known of their condition is mentioned, and this does not constitute rebellion; rather, it falls under the category of [recording] history. After their death, if they were unjust or if these matters are recounted, it is done from a historical perspective and does not constitute rebellion. For whom would the rebellion be directed? Rebellion applies during their rule and while they are in authority; but after their death, how can one rebel against them? https://t.me/almanhajussalafi/2032
