What should you do if someone brings you gossip (namīmah)? Imām An-Nawawi raḥimahullāh states: If someone brings you gossip and says, “So-and-so said this about you,” then you must do six things: 1⃣. Do not believe them, because a person who carries gossip is sinful, and his words are not trustworthy. 2⃣. Advise them and tell them to stop, and explain that what they are doing is wrong. 3⃣. Hate their action for the sake of Allāh, because gossiping is something Allāh hates — and it is necessary to hate what Allāh hates. 4⃣. Do not think badly of the person who was mentioned, because Allāh says: “Avoid much suspicion.” 5⃣. Do not try to spy or investigate whether the gossip is true, as Allāh says: “Do not spy.” 6⃣. Do not repeat the gossip to others, so that you do not become like the one who spread it. [Al-Adhkār — Chapter on guarding the tongue, section on gossip] https://t.me/masjidsahabah/1205
