BENEFIT 503: ’Aql vs. Naql

Shaykh Al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allāh have mercy upon him) said: ‘I will take refuge on a mountain that will protect me from the water.’ -> [This is intellect] ‘There is no protector today from the decree of Allāh except for whom He has mercy.’ -> [This is revelation] ‘And the waves came between them, and he was among the drowned.’ -> [This is the result] Thus, whoever gives precedence to his intellect over the authentic texts of the Qur'ān and Sunnah will drown in the darkness of the seas of desires and innovations.
