BENEFIT 502: Kāmilah Al-Kawwarī

Question: What is the condition of Kāmilah Al-Kawwarī, who produced an abridgment of Ash-Sharḥ Al-Mumtiʿ by Ibn ʿUthaymīn? Is she considered to be from Ahlus-Sunnah? Sheikh Najeeb Ash-Shar’abi ḥafidhahullāh: Kāmilah Al-Kawwarī is a Qatari woman who is a researcher and author in several branches of Islamic knowledge — including ʿAqīdah, Tafsīr, Fiqh and its principles, grammar, and other fields. Her most well-known work is Al-Mujallā fī Sharḥ Al-Qawāʿid Al-Muthlā, which is a beneficial commentary. She has also authored a valuable treatise entitled Qidam Al-ʿĀlam wa Tasalsul Al-Ḥawādith, in which she defended Shaykh Al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allāh have mercy upon him) and presented the issue of the succession of events in a clear and accessible manner. From her scholarly work, it appears that she possesses strong mastery of the foundational sciences and proficiency across various Islamic disciplines — something rare among women, especially in these later times. She also has a talent for composing poetry; in Al-Mujallā, she composed verses explaining her motivation for writing the book, as well as poetic renditions of the Beautiful Names of Allāh mentioned in it, and the foundational principles related to the Divine Names and Attributes. In her verses, she mentioned a dream she saw that included Imām Aḥmad, Shaykh Al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah, and Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymīn (may Allāh have mercy upon them all), and that dream contained glad tidings for her — and Allāh knows best. As for her manhaj, I have not come across anything objectionable except that Dr. Safar Al-Ḥawālī wrote an endorsement for her treatise Qidam Al-ʿĀlam wa Tasalsul Al-Ḥawādith — and it is known that Safar Al-Ḥawālī is affiliated with the Surūrī movement.
