Sheikh ’Abdurrahman Al-barrak ḥafidhahullāh said:
"...in conclusion, those who permit tasweer—whether by camera or through digital imaging—fall into several categories:
1⃣. Scholars who have reached the level of ijtihād, who search for the truth without being influenced by personal desires. However, they fall into ta'weel (unintentional misinterpretion) in the issue of tasweer, and this group is very small.
2⃣. Scholars who have reached the level of ijtihād, but their view is affected by the pressures of modern life and some personal desires.
3⃣. Blind-followers who intend good [they simply copy what the Sheikh says].
4⃣. Blind-followers who are influenced by whims and desires, and this group is common among those who claim to be religious or knowledgeable.
5⃣. People who follow their own whims and desires, and don't care whether tasweer is halal or haram. They respond to criticism with doubtful arguments and the existence of scholarly disagreement. But Allāh knows what they conceal and what they make apparent.
So people in this matter are, as Allāh said: “They are in varying degrees before Allāh, and Allāh is All-Seeing of what they do.” [Surah Al-Imran 163]
