Ibn Al-Jawzi (may Allāh have mercy on him) said: «فمطلق الهوى يدعو إلى اللذة الحاضرة من غير فكر في عاقبة، ويحث على نيل الشهوات عاجلا وإن كانت سببا للألم والأذى في العاجل ومنع لذات الآجل، فأما العاقل فإنه ينهى نفسه عن لذة تعقب ألما، وشهوة تورث ندما وكفى بهذا القدر مدحا للعقل وذما للهوى، وقد روي عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما أنه قال: ما ذكر الله عز وجل الهوى في موضع من كتابه إلا ذمه، وقال الشعبي: إنما سمي هوى لأنه يهوي بصاحبه» "Desire in its unrestricted form calls toward immediate pleasure without consideration of its consequences. It urges the attainment of lusts hastily, even if they result in pain and harm in the present life and deprive one of future delights. As for the intelligent person, he restrains his soul from a pleasure that is followed by pain and from a desire that leads to regret. This alone suffices as praise for reason and censure of desire. It has been reported from Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allāh be pleased with them both) that he said: ‘Allāh, the Almighty and Exalted, did not mention desire in any place in His Book except that He condemned it.’ And Ash-Sha‘bi said: ‘It was only called hawā because it causes its possessor to fall.’" [Dhamm Al-Hawā by Ibn Al-Jawzi, p. 18)] #Salafi_Quotes #beneficial_quotes
