However, by “ghuluww,” they do not mean what the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ intended by it. In reality, they use this term to target Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama‘ah—the Salafis(1)—who actively combat innovation, reject it, and refute those who practice or promote it, or who present it in a favourable light, defend its proponents, or make excuses for them.
