Seeking the truth Vs. Accepting the truth

Sheikh Sulayman Ar-Ruhaili hafidahullah states: Therefore, it is a well-established principle among scholars—and this is a very important matter—that truth is not to be sought from the people of falsehood. However, if the truth comes, it is to be accepted from everyone. Pay close attention to these two points: one, we do not seek truth from the people of falsehood; we do not go to them for the truth, as they primarily direct to falsehood. We do not go to the people of innovation seeking knowledge or truth. But if truth reaches us and its light becomes clear, then we accept it, no matter who brings it. I emphasise this matter because we have observed that some students of knowledge conflate these two issues from both sides. Some say, “We do not seek truth from the people of falsehood”—and that is correct—but then they say, “We do not accept the truth if it comes from them,” and that is false. Others take the opposite stance, saying, “Since we accept the truth from anyone, then we should seek it from anyone,” and this, too, is false. Going close to falsehood leads to destruction, as Imam Mālik said. --------- Related benefit ⤵️ https://t.me/almanhajussalafi/100
