BENEFIT: Eliminating Fitnah By Admitting One's Mistakes

Sheikh Sulayman Ar-Ruhaili hafidahullah states: Just as I advise the Shuyūkh that when an error is made clear to them—an error they have fallen into—they should not persist in defending it, nor should they attempt to justify it. The matter is simple: “I made a mistake in this, and I seek Allāh’s forgiveness.” What harm would that do to you? You are a Sheikh; admitting a mistake will not diminish your status. On the contrary, by Allāh, it will elevate your standing. Why cause disruption within the Ummah, issuing responses and counter-responses, and exhausting yourself and others? Simply say: “I was mistaken in this matter, and I seek Allāh’s forgiveness.” As long as it is indeed a mistake, do not occupy yourself with defending it, nor enable others to engage in back-and-forth arguments. I offer this advice to the Shuyūkh out of love for them, and I follow their lead, though I walk with a limp and am not among them. I urge them to show mercy to the Ummah and compassion to the students of knowledge. Many students today walk in fear and uncertainty due to these shifting positions. Salafiyyah is a path of security, and calling to Allāh is a path of security. O scholars, have mercy on the general public and on the students of knowledge. Unite and come together. What harm is there if you reside in the same city and the more knowledgeable among you reaches out to one with lesser knowledge, saying, “Let us discuss this matter together,” rather than burdening the students of knowledge and preoccupying their hearts with disputes? By Allāh, even if your enemy points out a fault in you with ill intent, he has still done you a favour—though he intended harm—by making you aware of your shortcoming. You should say, “Praise be to Allāh who allowed him to alert me to my error. I repent to Allāh and seek His forgiveness. I no longer hold this position. I have retracted” Therefore, I advise the noble Shuyūkh of Ahlua-Sunnah—those luminous full moons who illuminate the world and repel the darkness of falsehood—to show gentleness toward the general public and students of knowledge, and to be keen on shielding them from trials and fitan as much as possible. #فوائد_تربوية #Tarbiyah@masjidsahabah
