BENEFIT 443: Perhaps you are in a state of confusion because you previously rejected the truth!

Allāh Almighty said: “Nay, but they have denied the truth when it came to them, so they are in a confused state.” Sheikh Uthaymeen raḥimahullāh commented: The meaning is that because they rejected the truth, they became entangled in confusion—things became unclear and perplexing to them, and we seek refuge in Allah from that. This is similar to His saying: “And We turn their hearts and their eyes away [from guidance], as they refused to believe in it the first time; and We leave them in their transgression, wandering blindly.” That is, because they did not believe the first time the truth was presented to them, Allah caused them to remain lost in their transgression. Those who reject the truth end up in a perplexed and confused state, uncertain and hesitant in their beliefs. Thus, anyone who rejects the truth the first time it is presented to them should be aware that they will likely be tested with doubt and uncertainty in accepting the truth in the future. For this reason, it is incumbent upon us that, as soon as we recognise something to be true, we respond with: “We hear and we obey.”
