Sheikh Abdulḥamīd Az-Zu'kari hafidahullāh wrote: Abolishing the Manhaj of Testing People This is a sound manhaj supported by the authentic Sunnah of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. In Sahih Muslim (78), from the hadith of ʿAlī (may Allāh be pleased with him): ((إِنَّهُ لَعَهْدُ النَّبِيِّ الأمي إلي: ألّا يحبني إلا مؤمن، وَلَا يُبْغِضَنِي إِلَّا منافق)). "Indeed, it is the covenant of the unlettered Prophet to me: 'No one will love me except a believer, and no one will hate me except a hypocrite.'" And the Prophet ﷺ also said: ((لَا يُحِبُّهُم إِلَّا مُؤْمِنٌ وَلَا يُبغِضُهُم إِلَّا مُنَافِقٌ مَن أَحَبَّهُم أَحَبَّهُ اللَّهُ وَمَن أَبغَضَهُم أَبغَضَهُ اللهُ)). "No one will love them except a believer, and no one will hate them except a hypocrite. Whoever loves them, Allah will love him, and whoever hates them, Allāh will hate him." This was narrated by Al-Barāʾ. And from ʿUtbān ibn Mālik, in the story of Mālīk ibn Ad-Dukhshun: «ما نرى وده وحديثه إلا مع المنافقين» "We see his affection and speech only inclined with the hypocrites." This manhaj was followed by the Salaf. Al-Barbahārī said in Sharh As-Sunnah: “If you see a man who loves Abū Hurayrah, Anas ibn Mālik, Usaid ibn Ḥudayr, know that he is a person of the Sunnah, insha Allāh. And if you see a man who loves Ayyūb, Ibn ʿAwn, Yūnus ibn ʿUbayd, ʿAbdullāh ibn Idrīs Al-Awdī, Ash-Shaʿbī, Mālīk ibn Maghūl, Yazīd ibn Zarīʿ, Muʿādh ibn Muʿādh, Wahb ibn Jurayr, Ḥammād ibn Zayd, Ḥammād ibn Salamah, Mālīk ibn Anas, al-Awzāʿī, and Zāʾidah ibn Qudāmah, know that he is a person of the Sunnah. If you see a man who loves Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal, al-Ḥajjāj ibn al-Minhāl, Aḥmad ibn Naṣr, and speaks well of them, know that he is a person of the Sunnah.” Al-Barbahārī (may Allāh have mercy on him) also said: “And if you see a man who praises Ibn Abī Duwād, al-Murīsī, or Thumāmah, Abū al-Hudhail, al-Hishām al-Fuṭī, or any of their followers and supporters, beware of him, for he is a person of innovation. These individuals were upon heresy, so leave the one who speaks well of them.” [التمييع...فتنة العصر ١/٣٠٢] __ Related benefit ⤵️ https://t.me/madrasatuna/4112 and subsequent posts Note: The individuals mentioned by Al-Barbahārī and those before him were cited: من باب التمثيل لا التخصيص 'by way of example, not limitation'. Their status was only elevated due to their adherence to the Sunnah, and they are only hated by those who oppose them because of their firm commitment to it. Therefore, whoever follows their path falls under the same rulings as them, just as the Prophet ﷺ said: ((لا تزال طائفة من أمتي على الحق ظاهرين حتى يأتي أمر الله وهم على ذلك)).
